It's not a gloomy day - that's the first thing you have to tell yourself. Unless you are going through a horrible tragedy or trauma (in which case I am pretty sure you will not be sitting here reading this blog) but since you are, chances are the worst has already gone by. Now is the time to help yourself feel better and make it a cheerful day - for yourself (most importantly) as well as for those around you.
Here are a few pick me ups. They work for me and I hope they work for you too:
- Call an old friend (fighting with that old friend? Call another one). Don't text or email. Call them, share an inside joke and have a loud, uproarious laugh.
- Meet up with your friend if they happen to live close by and go for dessert or shopping (a round of golf for the gentleman?)
- Build something, sew something (just don't pick a complicated project that will further frustrate you.)
- Cook, bake, eat. Don't know how to? No problem! Buy something cheap and inexpensive - hey, a $1 sundae from McDonald's sounds pretty good right about now. Yes, you can indulge even if you are broke! No, you won't gain weight in one day.
- Sing a song.
- Sing a song under a hot shower.
- Think of your achievements in life; is it the parallel parking you rocked last week? Great job! See you are more talented than you think you are :)
- Nutella is a known cure for a lot of problems.
- Hug your child, pet, friend, plant, TV - whatever brings you joy! Nobody is judging.
- Still glum, chum? You need to get off the computer and take a walk, or drink some tea, or write down what is it that's bothering you and how you can fix it or get over it. Easier said than done, I know, but definitely worth a try.
Here is a link to Best Nutella Recipes and below is what they look like :)
How do you cheer yourself up? Would love to hear from you. I wish you a cheerful day :) See you next week!

ReplyDeleteStrangely enough reading this blog has cheered me up considerably! ... Also I find a classic romcom with a tub of Ben & Jerry's usually does the trick... as does a good manicure, a girly chat and going through old photos you'd forgotten you had! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat writing Aliza! Sunshine is a good cure and shopping never hurt anybody especially shoe shopping ;-)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Mona :) Thanks for writing.
